Understanding Islamophobia

What it is, how to recognise it, and why it matters.

What Is Islamophobia?

Islamophobia is rooted in racism and is a type of discrimination, prejudice, and hatred directed at Muslims or those perceived to be Muslim. It encompasses a range of experiences from everyday prejudice to systemic discrimination, from verbal abuse to violent attacks. Islamophobia affects individuals, families, and entire communities — limiting freedoms, creating fear, and undermining the rights of Muslim people to live safely and with dignity.
